SAMSUNG VR AND WHAT APPLE CAN DO?
There is a point in our lives where we look into the technology and the innovations in the past where we really hit the pot of gold. For example, when the first smartphone was developed it created a massive movement and revolution to push the smartphone product to the next level. As a consumer, it brings out a lot of benefits because you get a smartphone that had at least billions of dollars worth of research and all you have to do is pay for 700$ of the hard work. This same scenario mentioned above is Samsung VR where the company is one of the first to ever come into the highly competitive market with a virtual reality platform. This VR is the next level of the market and the companies all around are expecting to develop such of a product like the Samsung VR. But, Apple also performs right behind them, even without the VR platform in their company. Therefore, I am here to research the purpose of having the Samsung VR in our market and does it help Samsung to stay even more competitive and what does Apple do about it.
Besides having the Samsung VR, Samsung has a lot more other products to provide for the consumer. For example, on Samsung’s website Samsung has the Galaxy TabPro S that has one of the few features that Apple doesn’t have. Samsung has a detachable keyboard on the laptop, which in definition the product can be both a laptop and a tablet. Which creates more portability and efficiency while the consumer works on the tablet/laptop. For college students, it;s very crucial to have a laptop that can also be very flexible and portable to use. Apple doesn’t follow the laptop/tablet model but they have developed the MacBook and upgrades the product by making it lighter in weight (MacBook Air), make it more efficient with a consumer’s work (MacBook Pro), and then for those who are looking for a much larger scale and a computer (iMac). Apple has many different laptops that target all sorts of consumers, from the college student, people who work at home, and they consumers that carry a lot of weight all the time.
To continue on, Samsung also has created a new and innovative product that is Samsung VR. VR means virtual reality and it’s certain equipment that the consumer uses with their phone to put themselves in a “separate environment”. Apple hasn’t established their position on VR but according to a statistics website, Samsung reached to sell 5 million units in 2016 and is the leading brand in VR. If a Samsung VR costs about 120$ then Samsung makes 600,000,000 dollars and counting. This creates a lot of pressure on Apple, because they’re losing consumers to the profit of Samsung’s new innovation that barely has any valuable competition against Samsung. The only thriving competitive company is the Oculus and it’s 45% behind the profit of Samsung’s VR.

You pick up the new Samsung Note 7 and you like the feel of the phone and its new accessories and then BOOM!! Samsung has noticed and recalled the Samsung Note 7 due to the battery explosions, you as a consumer are feeling that your phone is not a phone, but a portable bomb. From the New York Times author Paul Mozur, in his article “Samsung to Recall 2.5 Million Galaxy Note 7s Over Battery Fires” he explains the Samsung issue and how Samsung can bounce back. In this post, I am researching the different ways that a company like Samsung can do in order to hold or regain its customers from leaving their business for another rival company like Apple.
Before we start to show how Samsung can fix the problem, we need to recognize and analyze how the problem happened. Paul Mozur states in his article that the battery of the Samsung is a lithium-ion battery which is also used for “Laptops, Cars, and the phones” however the battery is so reactive that it can problems like “over-heating, melting, or even exploding”. Samsung had to recall “2.5 million Samsung Note 7 phones” because the issue of the phone can cause potential harm to the user. There have been cases of third-degree burns, videos of the phone screen melting, and even airline companies not allowing Samsung Note 7s in their planes because of the risk of fire. Samsung needs to act fast and Bryan Ma, states “ If you look at the previous instances in tech history where there have been recalls, as long as it doesn’t drag on to the point that the company becomes the butt of a joke, then it should be minor.”
Before the incident, “Samsung’s smartphone sales rose to 5.5%, while the Apple sales went down 15%.” This meany that Samsung was beating Apple in sales. With their latest phone being on recall and Apple releasing the iPhone 7, Samsung will need a couple options to save their downfall. One option that can work, being able to advertise the new Samsung VR and other appliances that apart of the Samsung market. Another option, that is to quickly fix the problem of the Samsung Note 7 itself and do it “before the Christmas holidays” if not “their sales will exponentially deplete and Apple will boosts its sales with the new iPhone 7.” So no matter how badly the Samsung Note 7 is, the least that Samsung can do is to re-engineer the battery of the Samsung Note 7 to continue to produce its product and remove the recall. I will research how companies know which certain features to add in their new product in order to get the most consumers.

WHAT'S ON THE PHONE?
Every day, businesses and firms always try to progress their progress to the next level to gain many consumers. Samsung and Apple innovate their products every year to increase the amount of sales and profit for their phones. So, according to Adam Smith companies have the only incentive of getting money, so in order to fulfill that incentive they need to innovate their products for the benefit of the consumer. I used to two websites for each of the company's’ latest smartphone product: for Samsung I used a blog post from a Samsung fan and a tech fanatic who referenced multiple sources, and I used a website call www.gsmarena.com where it has all the specifications of every phone on the market, which is certified and credible by multiple experts. Therefore, my research is to determine what the Samsung s7 and iPhone 6s has to offer in terms of: Memory, Display, Battery, RAM, and Resolution with minor features included.
According to the Samsung Galaxy s7, a blog post stated the certain specifications of the phone. First off, the display screen of the phone is 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1440 X 2560 which is good for those phone users who pay attention to detail. For the memory, the Galaxy s7 also provides a RAM 4 GB and an option of a 32 / 64 GB memory when you get the phone. If the memory is enough for you to fill in all those pictures, Samsung has given the option to receive and buy a Micro SD up to 200 GB to have extra memory space for videos, projects, and pictures. And to those who have a struggle with battery, the Samsung battery is much longer because the S7’s 3000 mAh battery trounces the iPhone’s 1715 mAh pack.
For the iPhone 6s from Apple, the display size is 4.7 inches with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels which are over competed with the Samsung’s Galaxy s7. For the memory, the iPhone 6s gives you a 16/64/128 GB memory and 2 GB RAM but you aren’t given a card slot for the microSD card. But, Apple has the feature of storing all your items to your Apple Cloud so that you don't lose any of the info that was made. As mentioned in the above, the battery is only a non-removable Li-Ion 1715 mAh battery which means there’s less battery life on the phone for the daily users.
So to further my research, I would like to see how Samsung has kept up with the competition of Apple after their continuous and dangerous situation of exploding battery on the new Galaxy s7 Note.

SAMSUNG AND APPLE'S MARKETING STRATEGIES
Source: http://media.vanityfair.com/
Do you ever wonder when you go watch a commercial there’s always that new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 or the new iPhone 7 that comes out and every single year there’s usually one or two other phones that try to compete against these powerhouses and they always fall short? Well, according to a blog from WordPress.com, that is unbiased and reaches many branches of both companies, it is the way that Samsung and Apple have promoted and linked their products to their customers that have made them today’s best smartphone products. Therefore, I am here to figure out what are the techniques and strategies they use to gain the maximum amount of consumers every year.
Both Samsung and Apple provide different marketing campaigns during the year, but the concern is how do they get many customers to buy their products every time. The answer to that is from a blog source from WordPress.com titled, "Customer Relationship Marketing: Apple Vs Samsung." where Apple uses a marketing technique called CRM (Consumer Relationship Marketing) which is “to get to know the customer as well as possible so as to help a company delivery better, more appropriate and higher added value to the customer.” And on the contrary Samsung uses another type of marketing called “Transactional Marketing” These two strategies and techniques of marketing correlates the reason of why Apple and Samsung produce many customers every year because it is the customers that believe that the company's’ new phone will be the one just for him/her.
Continuing on, Samsung gains consumer relationship and loyalty using a set of principles or steps. These principles are what companies use to produce positive results with Transactional Marketing “4P’s of Transactional Marketing:
Product — Creating a product that meets consumer needs.
Pricing — Establishing a product price that will be profitable while still attractive to consumers.
Placement — Establishing an efficient distribution chain for the product.
Promotion — Creating a visible profile for the product that makes it appealing to customers.”
To clarify, CRM and Transactional Marketing are opposites of eachother. From WordPress.com “CRM is rooted in the idea that it is efficiency to retain an existing customer than to recruit a new one. CRM provides the customer with valued products and striving for the customers’ satisfaction, that gives the organization a competitive advantage.” On the other hand, Transactional Marketing “focuses on maximizing the profit of the company by recruiting more and more customers to purchase the firm’s product rather than developing a relationship with the buyer.”
With Apple, they follow a different technique CRM as mentioned. From WordPress.com,"Customer Relationship Marketing: Apple Vs Samsung."Google cooperates with other mobile phone manufactures such as Samsung, HTC and Sony in order to install the Android platform on those devices. On the other hand, Apple doesn’t focus on the number of the devices on the market, Jonathan Ive once said “for apple it’s quality not quantity”. Apple wants to make the consumer a die-hard Apple product fan. Apple does a great job of getting the customer to get hooked by their retail stores across the country. They let the customer try out the phone first-hand and get the “feel” of the product. Therefore, the majority of the time when a customer arrives at an Apple store, he or she is more likely to come out with a new Apple product.
Therefore, both Samsung and Apple use simple marketing techniques for a very complex oligopoly market and an industry that is difficult to create success when they start. In reality, I am an iPhone type person because when I arrived into an Apple store, they used the tactics of CRM to ingrain in my brain to love the product more than any other smartphone out on the market.
I would like to research more about Samsung and Apple about this question, "What is their next step to gaining more consumers?" as well as "How does Samsung regain their consumers when the majority takes Apple as their cellphone provider?"
